After completing the 21 days training at the NYSC orientation camp, you may wish to return home to pick up some supplies before you head to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). Corps members usually apply for leave immediately after the 21 days camping experience at the NYSC orientation camp. It will enable them gather necessary supplies they would need when heading to their place of primary assignment. When going to the camp, most corps member only bring supplies needed during the 21 days period at the camp. No one would come to the camp with a kitchen cabinet, or a bed and bed stand. You can take these supplies and more to your place of primary assignment, but not to the orientation camp. So after completing the 21 days at the camp, it may be time to head home and gather necessary supplies you’ll need for the remainder of the year. To do so, you’ll need to learn how to write a proper NYSC leave letter. Luckily for you, I’ll be showing you how to write NYSC leave letter with examples.Information Guide Nigeria
Why do I need to write a leave letter?
The NYSC leave letter is mandatory if you wish to travel anywhere after your orientation course at the NYSC camp. The NYSC leave letter must be written to the NYSC state coordinator; through your Zonal Inspector; through your local government inspector; and through the head officer/employer at your place of primary assignment. These offices must approve of your leave letter before you can embark on your travel. There are two types of eave you can apply for, they include:
- One week leaveWAEC Result
- Two weeks leave
Corps members are allowed to apply for a maximum of 2 weeks leave during their one year service. So the decision is yours if you wish to apply once or utilize the leave twice.
For example, if you apply for a one week leave, you still have the option of applying for another one week leave. However, if you apply for two weeks leave, then the NYSC board will no longer approve any leave for you.
How to Write and Submit your NYSC Leave Letter
To apply for NYSC leave, you must first complete the 21 day course at the orientation camp. Upon successful completion of the orientation course in camp, the NYSC state coordinator will post you to your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA) where you will serve the remainder of the year.
To apply for the NYSC leave, report to your PPA and your Local Government Inspector (LGI) for documentation. After getting accepted by your PPA, write a leave letter for either two weeks or one week and submit the letter to your LGI together with your acceptance note from your PPA.
If your leave letter is written properly, your application for leave will be granted. However, if the letter is written poorly, then your LGI won’t approve of you to travel. Hence, it is important that you know how to properly write the NYSC leave letter.
